Fetscherplatz and the adjacent Borsbergstraße are the commercial centres of the Dresden district of Striesen. For a long time, agriculture determined the economic development of the district. The original Slavic settlement was first mentioned in documents in the 14th century; by the end of the 19th century, the village had grown so close to Dresden that it was unceremoniously incorporated.
The current architecture of the district, which is located to the east of the old town, dates largely from the Wilhelminian period. The two- to three-storey town villas mostly had a square ground plan and are therefore still called "coffee mill houses" today. Besides the visibly many green corners, the old and new houses house shops for daily needs as well as for special purchases. Whether furniture, art, books, clothing or health - here you will find specialists everywhere.
