The main station was built in 1892-97 on the site of the Bohemian Station by Ernst Giese, Paul Weidner and Arwed Rosbach. The three-aisle steel arched hall has 18 platforms. After the destruction of the war in 1945, the main station was rebuilt in a simplified form. After extensive renovation work, the main station received a membrane roof designed by the English architect Norman Forster in 2006.
