The Coselpalais, a magnificent building in rococo style, was built by master builder Knöffel from 1744 to 1745. It is named after one of its former owners, Count Friedrich August von Cosel, a son of the relationship between Augustus the Strong and his mistress, the Countess of Cosel. The Coselpalais was first reduced to rubble during the siege by the Prussians in the Seven Years' War. By 1764 it had been rebuilt by the master builder Schwartze with several extensions. In the 19th century it served as police headquarters. In February 1945, the main building was completely destroyed. The side wings of the cour d'honneur were reconstructed in 1972, the palace itself until 2000.
